Issue Nine: Submissions for Issue Nine, #Activism, are now closed. Check back with us on December 12 for our new theme!
Our Submittable page will remain closed until the new theme is posted.
All text documents should be submitted in legible (Times New Roman preferred), 12 pt. font in .doc, .docx, .txt or .rtf formats. We encourage our contributors to submit simultaneously, but please indicate so in your cover letter and inform us if your submission is accepted elsewhere. Please limit submissions to once per issue. We will no longer accept submissions sent to our email account.
Fiction Guidelines: We welcome fiction—including flash fiction and stand-alone novel excerpts—that does not exceed 5,000 words. We won’t publish genre fiction unless it is truly exceptional.
Nonfiction Guidelines: We accept memoirs, creative non-fiction, autobiographies, book reviews, academic essays and interviews. Submissions cannot exceed 3,500 words. Academic essays require a bibliography.
Poetry Guidelines: Authors may submit up to three poems. The poems may be included in the same document. We accept recordings of poetry—particularly slam poetry—in MP3 format.
Art/Photography/Digital Guidelines: Comics, photography, mixed medium. JPG files only, 72dpi or above. The images should not be smaller than 335 pixels wide and 453 pixels tall. Video must be hosted on vimeo.com
Our Editing Process
We reserve the right to make grammatical edits to accepted works. If we feel a work needs a slightly larger edit, we will contact the author about the changes we’ve made. If the author does not reply to us within a week, we will assume the author accepts the edit, and we will publish the work accordingly.
We reserve first publication rights for all accepted pieces. In other words, you’re more than welcome to publish it elsewhere after it appears in our magazine, but not before.
